Hankook IW41a iON Nordic SUV — non-studded winter tyre of the northern type for electric crossovers, including plug-in hybrids. When developing the model, particular attention was paid to the stability of the contact patch, acoustic comfort, and rolling resistance. The model has M+S and 3PMSF markings; the 3PMSF symbol confirms its suitability for complex snow conditions.
The tread is built on an optimized V-shaped scheme. Wave-like three-dimensional lamellae are concentrated in the central part, and neighbouring blocks are separated by mutually overlapping cuts. The combination of different types of lamellae supports pattern stability and limits excessive mobility of elements. The V-shaped arrangement of blocks increases the useful contact area and helps to distribute pressure more evenly, maintaining traction and braking efficiency on snow.
In the ProGrip rubber compound, new silica is used: the composition is designed to maintain a balance between elasticity and tread stability at low temperatures. The angles of the drainage grooves are selected for effective water removal from the contact patch. As a result, the lamellae, blocks, and channels work as a single system on snow, ice, and wet winter surfaces.
The acoustic part of the design combines several solutions. The beveled edges of the blocks make their entry into the contact patch more smooth, and the alternation of elements in the inner and outer tracks distributes the noise generated during rolling. The Quiet Flex technology complements the pattern with sound-absorbing material inside the tyre, which reduces vibrational noise.
The Opti Cure technology uses an optimized vulcanization mode to reduce rolling resistance. The Round Even solution forms a more even distribution of pressure in the contact patch, helping to limit uneven wear. These features adapt the tyre to the requirements of an electric vehicle, preserving the properties necessary for northern winter roads.
