Most owners of modern crossovers and frame SUVs spend 90% of their time in the city, but the remaining 10% want to drive where the asphalt ends. The problem is that a purely "highway" tire on a gravel road risks getting a sidewall puncture, and an aggressive off-road tire kills handling and comfort in the city. The Hankook IK41A iON GT SUV is designed exactly for the golden mean: urban conditions plus light off-road. The model offers confident passability without losing control accuracy, as well as thoughtful protection against mechanical damage.
Predictability on asphalt and grip on dirt
Unlike classic off-road tires with a chaotic arrangement of lugs, a clearly defined rib architecture with segmentation into separate blocks is expressed here. Longitudinal guides (three central ribs) maintain directional stability on the highway. The car does not dart when changing lanes and holds the trajectory in turns. But the ribs themselves are not solid, but consist of separate elements with uneven edges. Each such notch is an additional gripping edge that "bites" into the surface at the moment of skidding. As a result, the handling remains refined and predictable, and the passability on uneven terrain increases.
Shoulder area
The tire has wide shoulder zones with rectangular blocks. Their geometry solves two problems. Firstly, traction properties. The rectangular shape with bevels provides the maximum contact area on loose surfaces. Secondly, protection. These blocks protrude beyond the dimensions of the sidewall, taking on impacts from sharp stones, roots, and curbs. In fact, they reduce the risk of cuts and punctures.
Working loads without surprises
Crossovers and SUVs are often operated with variable loading - from one driver to a fully loaded trunk plus trailer. Therefore, the carcass is made with an increased number of cord layers and increased thread density. This provides a margin of strength when driving over bumps. The tire confidently withstands increased loads without losing shape and seal.
Elasticity versus wear
For urban conditions and light off-road, a compound is needed that equally well resists abrasive wear on hot asphalt and withstands impacts on gravel. A strong but sufficiently elastic rubber mixture based on high-molecular polymers is used here. The result is an increased resource even with intensive operation with frequent accelerations-braking and periodic exits to the ground.
Main features of Hankook IK41A iON GT SUV:
- specialized design for a wide range of crossovers and SUVs - equally effective in the urban cycle and on light off-road;
- developed block system, formed into longitudinal ribs, provides refined, predictable handling on the highway and reliable traction properties on uneven surfaces;
- strong and elastic rubber compound with a reinforced carcass extends the service life.
