The winter tire GT Radial Champiro IcePro 3 SUV is a modified version of the same-name passenger car model and is designed for SUVs and crossovers. It differs in its reinforced design, adapted for operation on vehicles with increased weight. Developed with consideration of the difficult road conditions of North European countries by specialists of the research center in Germany.
"Scandinavian" tread pattern
The tire tread is distinguished by a design characteristic of models from Scandinavian manufacturers. Like their colleagues, Asian tire manufacturers preferred to increase the number of blocks, significantly reducing their size. In addition, the tread elements have a complex polygonal shape, which further increases the number of gripping edges, while arranging them in different directions. As a result, the tire demonstrates confident behavior and excellent handling on snowy surfaces.
Increased number of studs
Regardless of the tire size, the tread has at least 150 studs. The steel elements form 12 so-called "anti-skid chains" during movement. This provides the tire with confident behavior on ice. The efficiency of the studs is further increased due to special circular protrusions near the place of their installation. They contribute to the crushing of ice debris and its removal from the contact patch of the tungsten carbide insert with the road.
Several types of lamellas
The tire tread contains lamellas of two types. In the central part, there are wavy cuts. Due to their shape, they rigidly limit the mobility of the blocks, which ensures better grip without compromising handling. In the shoulder areas, Z-shaped lamellas are used. During movement, they form very long transverse edges, which increase the effectiveness of the tread when braking on slippery surfaces.
