The blocks of the shoulder zones are arranged in such a way that the edges of the contact formed in the center have a continuation in these parts of the tread, while being directed at an angle. This design significantly improves handling and stability on snow and slippery wet surfaces.
Resistance to aquaplaning and slushplaning
One of the characteristic features of the tire is its ability to maintain traction properties even in the most unfavorable road conditions. This is ensured by the high efficiency of the drainage system. It is provided by the large volume of two longitudinal grooves in the central part of the tread and two similar elements in the shoulder zones. This is enough to provide the tire with high resistance to aquaplaning. In turn, the rapid removal of the water-snow mixture is ensured by numerous transverse grooves. They are located at an angle and against the direction of movement, which allows accelerating this process using the centrifugal forces arising during wheel rotation.
Lamellas of several types
In the absence of studs, traction properties on snow and ice are provided by several thousand lamellas. Seeking to make their work as efficient as possible, the developers used several types of these elements. The shoulder zones contain three-dimensional interlocking lamellas. When contacting the road, they open, forming traction edges, and at the same time, limit the mobility of the block throughout its area, which significantly increases the directional stability and accuracy of control.
The central rib of the tread contains straight lamellas. They also form additional traction edges, but at the same time, the block in which they are cut has small mobility. This feature gives the tire's reactions to the driver's actions softness, which increases the driving comfort. It is also worth noting the location of the lamellas at a large angle. This additionally increases the tire's resistance to lateral skidding on icy surfaces.
