The winter non-studded tire Goodyear UltraGrip 8 Performance is a worthy successor to the very successful model UltraGrip 7, which until recently enjoyed enormous popularity among car enthusiasts in Northern Europe. This model is produced in more than three dozen sizes with a landing size from 15 to 19 inches. The high technical characteristics of this tire are evidenced by the very high speed indices H and V for this category, which are assigned to this model.
As with the previous model, the tread of the UltraGrip 8 Performance tire is built in full accordance with one of the company's most famous technologies, V-TRED. This name hides a V-shaped design of a directed symmetrical tread pattern. This scheme for the arrangement of tread elements has provided the tire with a mass of advantages, especially on slippery surfaces.
In particular, it was possible to ensure a larger contact patch area, while maintaining the stability of its size, regardless of the mode of movement and the nature of the road surface. This made it possible to achieve excellent traction and handling in any conditions. Additionally, the V-shaped tread pattern is most effective in removing water and slush from the contact patch, allowing for confident movement even in the most unfavorable conditions. Another advantage of this tread construction is the reduced rolling resistance, which has had a beneficial effect on fuel efficiency.
However, the Goodyear UltraGrip 8 Performance tire has applied a technology that the previous model lacked. This refers to the revolutionary 3D-BIS technology, according to this North American manufacturer. The three-dimensional system of mutual blocking of tread blocks allowed significantly increasing the number of lamellas, and therefore, getting additional sharp edges of engagement. Due to them, it was possible to significantly improve traction on snow and ice. As you know, lamellas are deep cuts made in the tread blocks. In this tire, the walls of the lamellas have many protrusions that, when in contact during movement, are fixed in the corresponding recesses on the opposite wall of the lamella. Thanks to this, at the moment of contact between the tire and the road surface, the tread blocks acquire additional stiffness, which improved traction and handling on dry roads.
To preserve the main operational qualities of the tire in warm weather, a special Cool Cushion technology was applied. It consists in the fact that an additional layer is placed under the tread, which promotes more efficient heat dissipation. This protects the rubber compound from the detrimental effect of high temperature.
Another innovation was a new generation rubber compound. Its composition is distinguished by a combination of functional polymers and a silicon-containing component, silica. Due to the new composition of the rubber compound, the tire demonstrates excellent elasticity at low temperatures, which significantly improved traction, especially with slippery coatings. Additionally, the resistance of the tread to wear has increased significantly, which has had a beneficial effect on the service life of the tire.
