This was made possible by the SmartWear technology, which at that time was the result of many years of research in the field of tire design and design. All the advantages of the new technology were in the new tread pattern, which changed as it wore out, thereby maintaining the main operational characteristics of the tire.
At the beginning of operation, the upper layer of the tread contains many grooves equipped with a system of three-dimensional engagement of elements at the upper edge of the blocks. The rigid construction of the central part of the tread maintains stability while driving, and the shoulder areas of the tread reduce the impact of lateral forces. As a result, a more even distribution of load on the contact patch is ensured, and the directional stability is also improved. In addition, the tread blocks have significant stiffness, which made it possible to significantly improve the handling characteristics, increasing the resistance to uneven wear.
The SmartWear technology provides a two-layer tread structure. As the upper layer wears out, hidden grooves and lamellas gradually appear on the tread, which makes it possible to maintain the high efficiency of the drainage system throughout the life of the tire. I.e., such a tread design, in its essence, guarantees the preservation of all operational characteristics of the Goodyear OptiGrip tire at a practically initial level even with a large mileage.
Another distinctive feature of this model is its excellent environmental qualities. This tire has demonstrated very low rolling resistance in tests, which provided it with excellent fuel efficiency. In addition, the composition of its rubber mixture contains a minimum of harmful poly-cyclic aromatic polymers for the environment.
