Description Goodyear KMAX D
Among all three representatives of the latest line of cargo models Kmax, the cargo tire Goodyear Kmax D is the one that boasts the most innovative solutions. Indirect confirmation of this is the presence of the M+S marking on its sidewalls, which implies the possibility of using this model for the driving axle throughout the year, i.e. even in winter. At the same time, it is distinguished by increased by 35% compared to its predecessors, the mileage to complete wear, as well as excellent traction and coupling properties and a high level of acoustic comfort.
IntelliMax Tread Technology
This model was one of the first to use the IntelliMax Tread technology. Its essence lies in the use of a two-layer tread. The lower layer has a more rigid composition of the rubber mixture, which provides high resistance to dynamic deformation that occurs during movement. Due to this solution, borrowed from passenger models, it was possible to significantly improve not only the resistance to uneven wear but also handling, acceleration efficiency, and carrying capacity. At the same time, due to the more elastic rubber mixture of the upper layer of the tread, this model demonstrates enviable softness of the ride, as well as excellent traction and coupling properties at low temperatures.
Increased Tread Width
Another innovation was the significant increase in tread width compared to previous models. This was achieved by reducing its radius to almost zero. In combination with an additional lower layer of rigid rubber mixture, this made it possible to significantly improve the even distribution of external pressure and reduce rolling resistance, which in turn led to an increase in mileage and improved fuel efficiency. In this regard, it is impossible not to note the location of all traction edges at a significant angle to the direction of movement. This also ensured an increase in mileage and fuel efficiency.
Symmetric Directional Tread Pattern
Since this model is designed for use on the driving axle, it is not surprising that its tread has a V-shaped directional design. It is formed by the curved shape of the drainage grooves that converge in its central part. Another feature of this design is the presence of a large number of massive trapezoidal blocks. The main advantage of this design is the presence of a large number of very long transverse edges of adhesion, which are located perpendicular to the direction of movement. This allows the tire to demonstrate excellent traction and coupling properties in the longitudinal direction, regardless of road and weather conditions.
Flexomatic Lamellae
Each of the trapezoidal blocks in the central part contains one lamella of a wavy shape. When in contact with the road surface, they, when opening, form a multitude of sharp edges that easily penetrate the water film, providing the tire with more reliable adhesion to the slippery road from rain and snow. At the same time, the walls of the lamellae, due to their wavy shape, are tightly fixed between themselves, which in turn increases the stiffness of the tread block, resulting in improved handling.
Main Features of the Goodyear KMAX D Tire
- increased by 35% compared to previous models, the mileage to complete wear;
- possibility of operation in winter time;
- original V-shaped design of the symmetric directional tread pattern provides excellent traction and coupling properties in any road and weather conditions;
- excellent acceleration efficiency is provided due to the multitude of very long transverse edges formed by the numerous tread blocks of trapezoidal shape;
- the two-layer tread provides a more even distribution of external pressure over the contact patch, reduced rolling resistance, reliable and predictable handling with soft ride and excellent adhesion on winter roads;
- Flexomatic lamellae improve traction and coupling properties on slippery roads, as well as handling when driving on dry asphalt.
