Description General Tire Snow Grabber
The General Tire Snow Grabber winter passenger tire is released in two versions - with studs and without them. At the same time, the studded version is designed predominantly for compact passenger cars with wheel diameters of 15 and 16 inches. As for the version of the tire without studs, it is perfect for high-crossing vehicles with wheel diameters from 17 to 19 inches. The range of sizes includes 17 different options.
This tire was developed with the aim of providing the maximum level of safety when driving on any winter roads. According to the assurances of this North American manufacturer, the design of the tire's tread gave it excellent stability when passing turns, as well as high efficiency of acceleration and braking, regardless of the characteristics of the road surface. This allows you to guaranteedly get unlimited pleasure from driving.
Asymmetric tread design
Unlike most other winter tires, an asymmetric tread pattern was chosen for this model, consisting of five longitudinal ribs. The outer side of the tire is responsible for stability during sharp maneuvering. Therefore, in this part of the tread, there are so-called "double blocks" that form two longitudinal ribs. Each pair of blocks is connected by thin bridges. Thanks to this solution, it was possible to significantly increase the stiffness in this part of the tread, which is subject to the main load when passing turns. In practice, this allowed the tire to demonstrate excellent stability when performing sharp maneuvers.
The central part of the tread contains a large number of individual blocks that, in addition to their small size, are distinguished by a complex configuration, abundant with elliptical faces and a large number of corners. In combination with the massive blocks of the shoulder area of the tread on its inner side, this made it possible to provide the tire with a number of advantages. First of all, the acceleration efficiency on snow was improved. In addition, the braking distance on any type of coverage was significantly reduced. It is also impossible not to note the significantly increased manageability, which introduced sports features into the handling character.
Another design feature of the central part of the tread is the presence of so-called "snow pockets". These are special containers designed to capture snow by the tread, which provides additional traction when driving on snowy roads.
The next characteristic feature of the General Tire Snow Grabber tire is the wavy lamellas, which the tread has in huge quantities. They are designed to create a multitude of additional edges, the sharp edges of which easily penetrate the water film, thereby providing additional traction on ice. In addition, these tread elements increase the stiffness of the tread blocks due to the dense fixation of their walls to each other at the moment of contact with the road surface.
The studded version differs mainly in the composition of the rubber mixture, which contains special additives. Thanks to them, it was possible to ensure an ideal balance between the stability of the studs and the service life of the tread. In addition, the places of arrangement of the studs are the result of a wide application of computer modeling tools, thanks to which it was possible to ensure optimal traction on ice at a low noise level. At the same time, the studs themselves are distinguished by their lightness and polygonal shape, which significantly improved the comfort and reliability of movement on icy roads.
Main features of the General Tire Snow Grabber model
- A multitude of double blocks on the outer side of the tread provide excellent stability when passing turns;
- The asymmetric design of the tread pattern made it possible to achieve excellent traction and handling on any winter surface;
- "Snow pockets" in the central part of the tread allow it to hold snow, which improves traction when driving on a snowy road;
- The combination of small tread blocks in the central part of the tread with massive blocks of the shoulder zones of the tread provides excellent acceleration and braking efficiency, regardless of the characteristics of the road surface;
- The countless number of wavy lamellas create additional edges, which increases traction on ice without compromising handling on dry asphalt;
- The rubber mixture with a high silica content allows the tire to demonstrate excellent elasticity at low temperatures, while providing excellent tread wear resistance.
