One of the novelties of the famous North American brand, the summer tire General Tire Grabber X3, is distinguished by its scope of application. This model was developed for SUVs, most of which are operated on dirt roads, i.e. off-road. Several progressive technological solutions were used in its creation, which provided the tire with excellent performance.
X-DIRT
This model is characterized by good efficiency on earthy surfaces with high moisture content. To a large extent, this is ensured by the configuration of the tread blocks. Those of them that are located in the shoulder areas have special notches. Thanks to this, the blocks, when in contact with the soft ground surface, form additional grip edges, which increases the grip properties. In turn, the blocks in the center of the tread also contain similar elements, but their configuration is such that they reduce the aggressive impact of stones on the tire, increasing its lifespan.
X-ROCK
This technology is a complex of solutions in the design of the tread pattern, aimed at protecting the tire's sidewall from punctures and cuts, as well as providing additional grip properties when driving on rocky surfaces. Most of them are located in the shoulder areas, each of which contains a row of transversely arranged blocks. These tread elements have a complex composite structure. A significant part of it is located on the tire's sidewalls. We are talking about special protrusions that are an extension of the shoulder blocks. The grip edges formed by them in the side projection form the letter X, and in addition to the aesthetic function, they have a purely practical purpose. These tread elements prevent damage to the tire's sidewalls and also improve grip properties on rocky surfaces.
DURAGEN
This model became one of the first tires of the brand where the DURAGEN technology was used. It is a complex of solutions aimed at improving several operational properties. In particular, it includes a reinforced three-layer steel cord carcass, thanks to which the tire demonstrates durability and resistance to punctures and cuts during off-road operation.
Another component of this technology is the rubber compound. Its composition contains a number of substances that give the tread resistance to aggressive mechanical stress and also make it resistant to abrasive wear.
The third element of the DURAGEN technology is the breaker. It is made entirely of steel cord, which is made from threads woven into wide tapes. The "substrate" formed in this way is exceptionally rigid, which ensures a more even distribution of external load over the contact patch. Its size has increased significantly.
Main features of Grabber X3
- Mud Terrain tire category;
- special notches in the tread blocks improve passability on earthy soils, provide reliable protection against damage from stones and other hard objects;
- optimized construction of the shoulder areas, which occupy part of the tire's sidewall, improves passability on rocky surfaces and reliably protects against punctures and cuts;
- DURAGEN technology improves many operational characteristics of the tire, from resistance to impact to handling at high speed.
