The Dunlop SP Winter Sport passenger tire was developed with the climate conditions of Western European countries in mind. For this reason, it is the optimal choice for operation in large cities or regions with a warm climate. Such a limited scope of application is due to the fact that its design is best suited for movement on asphalt and slushy snow. In such conditions, it demonstrates all its strongest sides, first of all, high resistance to slushplaning and refined handling.
Several thousand 3D lamellas
The tread of this tire has several thousand lamellas. It was possible to place such a number of, although miniature, elements in a fairly limited space due to the pyramidal profile of their walls. In addition, when contacting the road, they close to each other in such a way that the lamella remains open even under load. This provides increased traction on any smooth and slippery surfaces, from asphalt to rolled snow. At the same time, the reliable fixation of the lamella walls increases the rigidity of the blocks, which has a positive effect on handling.
Multiradius tread profile
In addition, the stability of the shape and size of the contact patch has a positive effect on handling and a number of other operational properties. In any conditions, it is practically square. This was achieved through a tread profile with variable curvature.
Resistance to uneven wear and excellent directional stability
The next important feature of the design of this tire is the carcass. All its cords are made using the technology of seamless winding. The absence of seams and joints gives the tread increased rigidity, and the tire - resistance to dynamic deformation. This, in turn, leads to a significant increase in resistance to uneven wear, as well as an improvement in directional stability, especially at high speeds.
Main features of the Dunlop SP Winter Sport tire
- several thousand 3D lamellas improve traction and handling on rolled snow and wet asphalt;
- a directional tread pattern with wide and deep drainage grooves provides reliable behavior in adverse road conditions;
- a tread profile with variable curvature gives the contact patch a square shape and increases its size, ensuring stability of geometric characteristics in any conditions.
