DescriptionDescription Dunlop SP 4All Seasons
The all-season tire Dunlop SP 4All Seasons was introduced quite a while ago. However, its characteristics turned out to be high enough for this model, designed for small and medium-sized passenger cars, to remain relevant to this day. In addition to the possibility of year-round application, it is distinguished by a wide range of sizes, which provides it with excellent applicability.
Excellent performance in any weather conditions
To a large extent, the possibility of year-round operation of this model is ensured by the rubber compound. Although in this case, it would be more correct to speak about it in the plural, since the British tire makers used two different rubber compounds of the tread. It includes a whole range of silicon-containing components, as well as polymers of a new generation. As a result, the tread has acquired the ability to maintain elasticity at an optimal level in a very wide temperature range. This feature provides the tire with excellent grip, both on hot summer and cold winter roads.
Excellent traction on snow
Dunlop SP 4All Seasons can be operated on winter roads not only due to the presence of a "snowflake" symbol on the sidewall. Its tread pattern, unlike most all-season models from competing brands, is more adapted to icy and snowy roads.
The adaptability to such operating conditions is visible to the naked eye, thanks to a fairly aggressive V-shaped design of the symmetrical directional tread pattern. It is mainly formed due to the structure of the central part. It represents a very wide central longitudinal rib, which is formed from many separate blocks of rectangular and trapezoidal shape. This design feature allows the tire to demonstrate excellent directional stability and predictable reactions to steering wheel turns when moving on slippery snowy roads.
A multitude of wavy lamellas
Another evidence of the Dunlop SP 4All Seasons being "tuned" for winter is the presence of a large number of wavy lamellas. These tread elements allow you to almost completely compensate for the lack of studs when driving on ice. When in contact with the road surface, they open up, forming a multitude of additional grip edges. At the same time, their walls, due to their wavy shape, are tightly fixed to each other, increasing the stiffness of the tread blocks, which improves handling on hard surfaces.
Excellent longitudinal traction and stability in turns
Unlike the central part, the design of the shoulder zones of the tread of this model contains many massive blocks of rectangular shape, which are installed transversely relative to the direction of wheel rotation. In the process of movement, they form many very long grip edges, thanks to which the tire demonstrates excellent traction and coupling properties in the longitudinal direction. Another advantage of this shoulder zone design is high stability during sharp maneuvering, which is achieved due to the excellent resistance of the blocks to dynamic deformation.
MRT Technology
One of the significant innovations of this model is the MRT technology. Its name is an abbreviation composed of the first letters of the words Multi Radius Tread. The literal translation of this phrase very accurately conveys the meaning of the MRT technology - it is a "multi-radius tread".
The "multi-radius" nature of the tread consists in the use of ten different radii, which makes it possible to achieve a very even distribution of external pressure over the contact patch, the size of which has increased significantly. The practical result of this technical solution was very accurate and predictable reactions of the tire to steering wheel turns. And the presence of this ability has significantly simplified the process of managing the car, especially during sharp maneuvering and driving on wet roads.
Main features of the Dunlop SP 4All Seasons tire
- the possibility of year-round use is ensured by the Silica-Plus rubber compound, which includes special polymer compounds that allow the tread to maintain elasticity at an optimal level in a very wide temperature range;
- excellent traction on snow due to a large number of separate blocks;
- excellent directional stability, instant response to steering wheel turns, and low rolling resistance are provided by a wide longitudinal rib located in the center of the tread;
- massive blocks of rectangular shape in the shoulder zones improve the dynamics of acceleration and braking on snow, as well as stability when changing direction and passing turns;
- the multi-radius tread increases the size of the contact patch, improving the evenness of the distribution of external pressure over it, which, in turn, significantly simplifies the process of managing the car, reducing the likelihood of uneven wear.
