Continental UltraContact UC6 — an all-round tire designed for drivers seeking the perfect balance of safety and comfort, with a clear priority: protection from the main summer enemy — wet roads.
Next-generation drainage system
The main hazard during the summer period is aquaplaning, when the tire loses contact with the road, floating on a water film. The tire features a hydraulic system that works on the principle of rain gutters. The central area of the tread has received channels of a fundamentally new shape. At their ends, there are circular holes-resonators. They act as flow accelerators: water entering the channel is sucked into these "wells" at the exit and is ejected outward under pressure. This is not just drainage, it's active hydroevacuation, which allows the tire to literally "stick" to wet asphalt.
Safe braking on wet pavement requires perfect contact between the edges of the blocks and the surface. We applied our proprietary technology — the beveled edges of the tread blocks are cut at an angle, imitating a diamond cut. The effect is that when braking, the beveled edges dig into the water film, destroying it and providing dry contact between the rubber and the asphalt. This allows reducing the braking distance exactly where ordinary tires start to slip.
Rubber compound
The compound is built on a combination of two types of polymers. Short-chain polymers are responsible for elasticity and adaptability. They work like "suckers" on the micro-roughness of wet asphalt, providing high friction and reliable grip. Long-chain polymers form a strong framework of the mixture. They bind the components together, resisting wear and tears. This increases the mileage resource, which this model is famous for.
Acoustic comfort
Silence in the cabin is the hallmark of Continental. The model uses an improved version of the proprietary noise reduction system. In the longitudinal grooves of the tread, there are special elements of complex shape. They do not interfere with water drainage but destroy sound waves. The high-frequency hum of the tire is converted into a barely perceptible low-frequency noise.
Key features of the Continental UltraContact UC6:
- perfect balance between sporty handling and soft ride with an emphasis on safety on wet roads;
- diagonal grooves with circular holes-accelerators for instant water drainage from the contact patch;
- beveled edges on the tread blocks to destroy the water film and reduce braking distance on wet asphalt;
- two-component polymer mixture combining short chains for grip on wet pavement and long chains for wear resistance.
