The Continental ContiVanContact AP summer commercial tire is a flagship model for the German manufacturer. All the technical solutions used here were later applied to other models in this class. In the development of this tire, great attention was paid to ensuring the longest possible service life. To achieve this goal, the developers used a whole complex of technical solutions. One of them was the optimization of the tread profile shape. In the side projection, it has a practically flat contour. Due to this, under the influence of external load, the contact patch increases significantly in size. And due to the aggressive angle of transition of the shoulder zones of the tread to the sidewall, it has a shape very close to a square. Due to this, the specific pressure on the road surface is significantly reduced, and the load is distributed evenly over the contact patch. As a result, the wear resistance of the tread is increased. This operating property is also ensured by the characteristics of the rubber compound. Its composition is characterized by a high content of silica, which increases the resistance of the tread to abrasive wear.
Reliability
During operation, the tire is distinguished by a high level of reliability. It is ensured to a large extent by some features in the design of the tread pattern. It contains special "stone ejectors" and other solid objects. They are protrusions of a special shape located on the bottom of the drainage grooves.
Another protective element of the tire is located on its sidewalls. A special rib prevents damage from contact with the curb stone.
