The all-season passenger tire Continental ContiPureContact is one of the latest developments of one of the leaders of the global tire industry, created specifically for SUV category vehicles - off-road vehicles, pickups, and crossovers. The sufficiently wide range of tire sizes testifies to the wide applicability of this model to many high-passability vehicles. The tire is produced in almost 30 variants, starting from 195/65R15 and ending with 245/40R18. Depending on the tire size, the speed index can be H or V.
Design of the tread pattern of the German tire
As with most other models of this German manufacturer, the company's specialists, when developing this tire, preferred a tread with an asymmetric pattern. The tread pattern contains four longitudinal ribs. A characteristic feature of the new tread is the structure of the central rib, which consists of many separate blocks grouped into groups of three blocks. Thanks to this design, the contact patch constantly has many sharp edges of engagement when in contact with the road surface. This allows for excellent acceleration efficiency, especially on slippery surfaces.
Another distinctive feature of the tread of the Continental ContiPureContact model is the structure of the shoulder area, located on the inside of the tire. This shoulder area consists of two rows of separate blocks with an original shape. These tread blocks have a quadrangular shape with elliptical relief on the edges. When driving on snow, this configuration of tread blocks, combined with their relatively small size, allows for excellent traction and high braking efficiency. Additionally, the fairly large distance between the blocks significantly expands the tire's capabilities for overcoming sections with deep snow cover.
As for the shoulder area located on the outside of the tread, there is also something to mention. It is in this part of the tread that the wear indicators are located, which allow for an easy and, most importantly, objective assessment of the degree of tread wear and its suitability for further use depending on operating conditions. Another feature of this shoulder area is the rectangular blocks located transversely to the direction of movement. This arrangement made it possible to achieve excellent braking efficiency.
Reliability and stability even in the most difficult weather conditions
Since the Continental PureContact tire is designed for year-round operation, its drainage system has special requirements for effective removal of not only water but also significantly heavier masses of thawed snow from the contact patch. The German tire manufacturers have excellently coped with this difficult task, equipping the tire tread with three longitudinal grooves and numerous transverse channels. At the same time, all elements of the drainage system have sufficiently large sizes, which perfectly cope with the removal of water and snow slush from the contact patch. Additionally, to give the tread additional resistance to aquaplaning, it is equipped with a large number of long lamellas. In rainy conditions, these lamellas, due to their length, work on the principle of windshield wipers, sweeping water from the road surface into the longitudinal and transverse grooves of the drainage system.
