The Continental ContiEcoContact 5 SUV summer tire is designed for crossovers and SUVs that are mostly driven on paved roads. This model belongs to the so-called "energy-efficient" tires, featuring pronounced fuel-saving properties and resistance to abrasive wear. However, its developers managed to maintain high-level traction and handling characteristics on dry and wet surfaces, creating an economical and comfortable tire for everyday use.

The development of this model was carried out in close cooperation with leading European manufacturers of passenger cars. The concept of their use implies, among other things, movement over long distances. When operated in this way, frugal European car owners are extremely attentive to fuel consumption, which led to the presence of a number of design features in this tire that minimize rolling resistance. They affected almost all components of the tire. Firstly, this is the tread pattern, which consists of five solid longitudinal ribs. In addition, a special profile of the tread is used, which further reduces rolling resistance and wear, while providing more stable traction and steering precision when driving at high speeds. Also, some changes were made to the composition of the rubber compound, which is able to intensely dissipate heat, as well as to the structure of the carcass, which is characterized by low weight and high stiffness.

Wet Braking Efficiency

Another important feature of the tire is its increased wet braking efficiency. To a significant extent, this is due to the design of the tread pattern, which contains a large number of edges formed mainly by lamellas. The rubber compound contains a large amount of "silica" and a packet of polymers, which at the molecular level, when longitudinally accelerated, heats up the compound, making it more elastic, which increases the braking properties on cold wet surfaces.

Improved Handling in Any Conditions

Despite all the tricks aimed at improving fuel efficiency and rideability, this model has retained the "trademark" stability and handling in any driving modes. To a significant extent, this is due to the combination of massive shoulder areas and optimized sidewall profiles, as well as their weight reduction. As a result, quickness and precision in handling, stability of traction, both when driving straight and when maneuvering dynamically, are achieved.
