The Bridgestone Blizzak W800 winter tire has been on the domestic market for a relatively long time, but its operational characteristics are still at a very high level today. This is largely due to the company's proprietary technologies and continuous work on its improvement. As for the main features of this model, they include high traction and coupling properties on snow, excellent load-carrying capacity and fuel efficiency.
Size range and applicability
One of the undoubted advantages of this model is its excellent applicability, largely due to its exceptionally wide size range for a commercial tire. It includes 18 sizes, designed for wheels with a mounting diameter of 14, 15, and 16 inches. Additionally, it can be installed on any axle of light trucks and minivans.
Open design of the tread pattern
Since the Bridgestone Blizzak W800 tire was initially designed for winter operation, its tread pattern has a number of characteristic features that provide it with increased coupling on snowy and icy surfaces. First and foremost, this is the open design and symmetrical non-directional arrangement of all tread elements. There are quite a few of them, as the tire's contact patch should contain the maximum number of coupling edges to ensure traction on slippery surfaces.
They are formed not only by numerous blocks but also by a multitude of lamellas located on their surface. When in contact with the road surface, they open up, forming an additional huge number of coupling edges, the height of which allows them to penetrate through the water film covering the icy surface. As a result, the tire has something to grip not only on snow but also on ice, without the need for numerous steel studs.
Excellent directional stability
Among other strong points of this model, it is worth noting its high directional stability, which it demonstrates regardless of the speed of movement and road surface characteristics. This was achieved thanks to several design features. First and foremost, it is a sturdy carcass designed to withstand a large weight of transported cargo. It gives the tire increased resistance to dynamic deformation, making its handling more stable.
In addition, the tread pattern contains five longitudinal ribs formed from numerous individual blocks. This arrangement provides the tire with excellent directional stability, especially at high speeds and when driving on slippery surfaces.
Excellent load-carrying capacity
This model is beneficially distinguished by its excellent load-carrying capacity, which was achieved through a number of technical solutions. Most of them affected the design of the carcass, which, taking into account the specific operating conditions on commercial vehicles, was significantly strengthened. In addition to the use of seamless steel cord winding technology, Japanese specialists also applied a steel breaker layer. Thanks to the latter, the load on the contact patch is distributed much more evenly.
Another technical solution that ensured high load-carrying capacity was the reinforced sidewalls. They have a special filler that gave the tire an optimal profile, also contributing to a more even distribution of external weight across the contact patch.
In addition, the tread pattern has a special design of the shoulder zones. Despite the fact that they, like other parts of the tread, consist of individual blocks, they also provide an even distribution of pressure across the contact patch. This was achieved due to the size and shape of the shoulder blocks, as well as their close proximity to each other.
Main features of the Bridgestone Blizzak W800 tire
- the tire is specifically designed for use on light trucks and minivans in winter conditions;
- the open design of the symmetrical non-directional tread pattern contains numerous coupling edges formed by multiple blocks and lamellas, which provides the tire with excellent traction and coupling properties on snowy and icy roads;
- five longitudinal ribs provide excellent directional stability and low rolling resistance;
- high resistance to slippage and aquaplaning, thanks to numerous drainage channels running around the multiple blocks;
- the reinforced carcass and sidewalls, as well as the wide shoulder zones, allow the tire to withstand the weight of transported cargo without any issues.
