The second generation of the Blizzak REVO winter tire with the SR02 index is characterized by even higher technical specifications than its predecessor. However, to achieve this, Japanese tire manufacturers had to make a huge number of changes, affecting almost all elements of the design of this model to varying degrees. Their effectiveness can be judged not only by the improved traction properties on ice, but also by a number of other operational characteristics, ranging from durability to fuel efficiency.
Original Z-shaped tread pattern
Unlike its predecessor, this model is equipped with a tread with a symmetrical design. The main feature of the latter is the Z-shaped form of the blocks located in the central part, where two solid longitudinal ribs are formed from them. Such a design is characterized by maximum traction on any winter roads.
Several types of lamellas
Like the previous model, the tread of this tire contains several thousand lamellas. However, they differ significantly in design. Japanese tire manufacturers have "added" special wavy lamellas located longitudinally in the shoulder areas. The main functional purpose of these elements is to ensure transverse stability on ice. Another innovation was the lamella-holes. They are located in the central part of the tread. In essence, these are micro-pumps that dry the contact patch when moving on ice.
As for the three-dimensional lamellas, their effectiveness has remained at the same very high level. The numerous protrusions on their walls do not allow them to close under load, while increasing the rigidity of the blocks. As a result, the tire demonstrates very stable traction on ice.
