The Bridgestone Blizzak MZ01 winter tire was created specifically for operation in regions with harsh winters and frequent temperature fluctuations. Compared to previously released models, it stands out for its improved traction on ice and packed snow, predictable handling during maneuvers, and high durability, belonging to the friction-type tires.
Unique Compound
The key feature is the use of a new rubber compound, Multicell Compound, at the time of its release. Its structure contains micropores and microcapsules filled with a special hydrophilic composition. This technology provides absorption of the thin water film that forms between the tread and the ice, thereby drying the road surface and significantly increasing the coefficient of friction. Moreover, the elastomers included in the mixture retain their flexibility even at temperatures below -30 °C, ensuring stable behavior in frost and preventing tread cracking during prolonged operation.
Engineering Approach to Carcass Design
Another important distinction of the tire is the carcass design, based on a multilayer cord made of high-strength synthetic fibers capable of withstanding significant dynamic loads. Thanks to the Jointless Cap Ply technology, which involves the continuous winding of a nylon layer without seams, the tire demonstrates increased resistance to deformations and even pressure distribution across the contact patch. This not only improves handling and directional stability at speed but also promotes even tread wear, increasing the overall lifespan.
Thoughtful Tread Pattern
The design of the tire's tread stands out with its directional design featuring massive blocks and numerous lamellas. Each of them performs a dual function: forming sharp edges for traction on snow and contributing to the drainage of water and slush. The dual longitudinal rib in the center increases stability when driving straight, while the wide groove between its two parts reduces the risk of aquaplaning.
Comfort and Durability
Despite the presence of a large number of elements in the tread pattern, this tire demonstrates a high level of acoustic comfort. This is achieved through the Noise Control Pattern technology, which provides an uneven step of the tread blocks, thereby damping the sound waves that arise when contacting the road, already on the surface of the tire. In addition, the "signature" Bridgestone sidewall and reinforced rim filler protect the tire from damage when driving over unevenness and curbs.
