The Michelin S1 summer motorcycle tire features an aggressive exterior design despite being limited to scooters with engines up to 125 cubic centimeters. In addition, the French manufacturer chose not to economize, applying a whole range of its proprietary technologies in the design of this model.
Maximum contact patch sizes
Like most other urban motorcycle tires, this model is equipped with a characteristic tread pattern divided into two "halves" by a longitudinal drainage groove. Another "proprietary" feature is the presence of many very massive tread blocks of complex polygonal shape. This design allowed not only to maximize the contact patch size but also to maintain it even at significant scooter tilt angles. It is due to this design feature that the tire demonstrates reliable and stable behavior in any road situation.
Excellent directional stability
The presence of massive tread elements in the central part of the Michelin S1 tread pattern provided the tire with excellent directional stability. This is achieved due to their increased resistance to dynamic deformation.
Excellent resistance to aquaplaning and abrasive wear
Another distinctive feature of this model is its excellent grip on wet roads, which was achieved due to certain features of the tread pattern and the composition of the rubber compound.
The tread pattern features a V-shaped arrangement of elements and a fairly large number of drainage grooves. At the same time, they are arranged in a direction opposite to the axis of rotation of the wheel, which significantly accelerates the removal of water from the contact patch.
As for the rubber compound, special components were introduced into its composition, which not only improved the grip on wet roads but also increased the resistance of the tread to abrasive wear.
