Description Tornado GL663D
The universal tyre Tornado GL663D is designed for trucks and a range of special equipment operating in challenging conditions. This is a well-thought-out balance between snow/off-road capability and fuel efficiency. The designers have opted for a differentiated tread pattern, where each zone solves its own problem, and the reinforced carcass and special rubber compound guarantee tread life.
Active tread lugs without the "clogging" effect
Here, the designers have deliberately abandoned solid longitudinal ribs, preferring massive curved elements with extended gripping edges. This geometry works like "claws". When moving on unstable ground, the tread blocks deeply penetrate the surface, generating maximum traction force in the longitudinal and transverse directions. At the same time, the wide voids between the tread lugs perform a self-cleaning function, preventing the "clogging" effect, when grip drops to zero.
Central zone
If the shoulders are responsible for traction, the central part of the tread is the basis for highway modes. Here, the blocks are arranged with high density and partially overlap each other, forming a practically continuous composite "rib". This design solves several engineering problems at once:
- minimization of tyre deformation during straight-line movement, which reduces energy losses and saves fuel;
- the dense arrangement of elements improves heat dissipation from the inner layers of the carcass, preventing overheating;
- the composite rib works as a guide, providing clear lane holding.
Carcass and compound
Operation in mixed conditions is constant impacts, cuts, wear, and high cyclic loads. For the tyre, a multi-layer breaker carcass with increased strength has been developed. It is resistant to punctures and sidewall cuts. The sidewall is reinforced with an additional layer of rubber, reducing the risk of damage when contacting curbs and sharp objects.
The rubber compound used in the tread contains modified polymers and technical carbon. This recipe provides:
- resistance to abrasive wear on dry and dusty surfaces;
- preservation of elasticity at negative temperatures;
- resistance to thermal aging, thanks to which the operational properties are preserved throughout the entire tread life.
Key features of Tornado GL663D:
- applicability on heavy commercial equipment operating in various conditions;
- extended curved blocks with self-cleaning voids provide excellent traction without the risk of clogging;
- dense arrangement of blocks reduces rolling resistance, regulates the thermal regime, and ensures stable grip on asphalt at high speeds;
- the compound is designed for operation in extreme conditions, resistant to cuts, wear, and temperature fluctuations.
