In addition to this, this model is distinguished by exceptional versatility of application. It is equally well suited for operation on public roads and off them. Excellent efficiency on asphalt roads
This tire owes its wide capabilities to the symmetrical non-directional tread pattern, consisting of four longitudinal ribs. Due to the fact that these tread elements have no interruptions throughout their length, they were made very rigid. As a result of this technical solution, the tire demonstrates excellent directional stability when moving on asphalt.
Another consequence of the presence of four longitudinal ribs of a solid design is reduced rolling resistance. Due to this, it was possible to significantly improve such a key indicator in commercial transportation as fuel efficiency.
In addition, all four longitudinal ribs are distinguished by massive dimensions. Due to this, the contact patch area has increased significantly, and due to high structural rigidity, it has taken a shape maximally close to rectangular. The contact patch of this configuration is characterized by a very even distribution of external load, which, in turn, has led to an increase in the tread's resistance to uneven wear, and therefore, an increase in the tire's service life.
Effective drainage system
The central part of the Pirelli AP05 tread, in addition to the longitudinal ribs, contains three longitudinal drainage grooves. Their large size allows them to effectively cope not only with the removal of water from the contact patch but also to ensure the removal of foreign objects and soil particles that have entered the tread. This allows the tire to more confidently overcome complex sections off the paved roads.
Good traction and adhesion indicators
The longitudinal ribs located in the central part of the tread contain zigzag edges that perform the function of adhesion edges. Due to this original technical solution, the Italian tire makers were able to provide good traction and adhesion characteristics, especially on wet surfaces.
High passability indicators on sand, mud, and snow
The design of the shoulder zones of the tread is one of the characteristic features of this model. In addition to the large size, this part of the tread is distinguished by the presence of special notches. When driving on loose and unstable soils, these tread elements provide more reliable and stable adhesion, working in the same way as off-road tires' ground-gripping devices. Moreover, the notches in the shoulder zones are large enough to exclude the possibility of their clogging with large and small soil particles.
Reliable sidewall protection
As you know, the sidewalls of the tire are the most vulnerable to mechanical damage element, especially when operating off paved roads. To provide reliable protection for the sidewalls, the Italian manufacturer used a whole range of technical solutions. In particular, the tire engineers equipped this part of the tire with special reinforcing ribs that run along its entire circumference. The main functional purpose of these elements is to provide reliable protection against impacts and abrasive effects when driving over curbs. Moreover, additional layers were added to the sidewall design, which made it possible to significantly strengthen the resistance of this most vulnerable part of the tire to punctures and cuts.
