The Michelin XDN2 Grip cargo tire, in addition to its novelty, is notable for belonging to a still relatively small category of winter models. Being designed for the steering axle of a highway tractor, it provides good traction properties on snowy and icy roads. This is due to the use in the tire design of a number of technical solutions, which will be discussed below.
Matrix Lamellization
This model was one of the first to apply the technology of matrix lamellization of the tread. Its main advantage is a significant increase in the number of lamellas. The total number of contact edges formed by them exceeds 1.3 thousand. The increase in lamellization density was made possible by the three-dimensional design of the lamella walls. When in contact with the road, they are densely connected to each other, which increases the stiffness of the blocks. This gives the traction properties even greater reliability.
Extended Service Life
Despite the fairly open tread design, the tire demonstrates a significantly longer mileage than most competitors. The advantage is provided by the increased width of the tread by several centimeters, as well as its depth. At the same time, the same dimensions of the tread ribs optimize the distribution of external load on the contact patch, which significantly reduces the intensity of tire wear.
