Description Kumho KRS04
Like other models in the KRS line, the Kumho KRS04 truck tire is designed for use exclusively on the steering axles of high-tonnage trucks and buses that are mainly used for interregional transportation over medium and long distances. Its key features are excellent traction, low rolling resistance, and excellent directional stability.
Original Tread Pattern
This model is distinguished by an original tread pattern for steering tires, which consists of six longitudinal ribs, but also contains many traction edges. Such an open design is much more common on Kumho KRS04 tires designed for use on driving axles, where a block structure would be very appropriate. Nevertheless, the South Korean manufacturer positions this model as a tire for steering axles. And it has every reason to do so.
Low Rolling Resistance
First of all, it is the location of all traction edges at a significant angle to the direction of movement. This feature made it possible to significantly reduce the additional rolling resistance created by them, while providing very high braking efficiency.
Improved Directional Stability
Another feature of these blocks is their shape and size. All tread elements located in the central part of the tread have a quadrangular configuration, with their long edges oriented along the direction of movement. In combination with the "inclined" transverse faces, this made it possible to significantly increase the deformation resistance in the longitudinal direction, which had a very favorable effect on directional stability.
Long Service Life
In contrast to the four longitudinal ribs that make up the central part of the tread, its shoulder zones are noticeably more massive in size. Due to this, the South Korean tire manufacturers successfully tried to solve several problems at once. First of all, it is an increase in resistance to uneven wear, which was achieved due to the optimal distribution of the load over the contact patch, provided by the reinforced construction of the shoulder zones. In addition, this solution made it possible to significantly improve the traction properties, especially when making sharp maneuvers.
Main Features of the Kumho KRS04 Tire
- the open design of the symmetrical non-directional tread pattern, containing many traction edges, provides the tire with excellent braking efficiency;
- excellent traction on wet roads, thanks to an unusually developed drainage system, which includes five longitudinal grooves and numerous transverse channels;
- excellent directional stability due to the 6-rib structure of the tread pattern;
- low rolling resistance is ensured by the high deformation resistance of the tread blocks in the longitudinal direction, the location of the traction edges at an angle, and the rigid construction of the sidewalls;
- excellent strength, thanks to the reinforced carcass and massive shoulder zones, which provide a more even distribution of external pressure over the contact patch.
