The Goodyear KMAX T truck tire is one of the novelties of the North American tire giant. It is part of the newly established Kmax model lineup, which is characterized by very high mileage indicators before complete wear. Compared to previous tires, the advantage of this model, designed for installation on any semi-trailer and trailer axles, is 35%. Achieving such impressive improvements in operational characteristics was made possible with the help of a whole range of new technologies.
Reinforced carcass construction
A significant part of the tire's mileage indicators was achieved due to the new carcass construction. It is distinguished by excellent strength and resistance to dynamic deformation, which allows the tire to "hold its shape" much better when exposed to the weight of the transported cargo. This has significantly increased not only the carrying capacity but also the durability of the tread to uneven wear. In this regard, it is impossible not to mention the increased tread width compared to the previous model.
Innovative tread rubber compound
Another innovation of this tire is the rubber compound, or rather its composition, which has received a number of new components. A significant part of these chemical compounds provides not only increased durability of the tread to abrasive and uneven wear but also reduces rolling resistance. These indicators are at a very low level in this model. In addition, it is impossible not to mention another important property of this rubber compound. It is favorably distinguished by increased resistance to punctures and tears, which, in turn, significantly increases the reliability and service life of the tire.
Integral construction of odd longitudinal ribs
The three odd longitudinal ribs, including the shoulder zones, are distinguished by an integral construction without any breaks. In combination with their massive dimensions, this has made it possible to significantly increase the durability of these elements to dynamic deformation. This design feature of the Goodyear KMAX T in combination with their location optimizes the distribution of external weight on the contact patch, which has a positive effect on carrying capacity and resistance to uneven wear, and also further reduces rolling resistance.
Zigzag drainage grooves
The five longitudinal ribs of the tread are separated from each other by drainage grooves. In addition to removing water from the contact patch, these tread elements perform another function. We are talking about removing stones from the tread, which, when embedded in it, can cause significant damage to the tire. Thanks to the zigzag shape of the drainage grooves, the likelihood of such a development is extremely low.
Short braking distance on wet road
In contrast to the odd ones, the two even longitudinal ribs located in the central part of the tread are distinguished by the presence of many additional elements. These are numerous straight lamellas. In the process of movement, they, unfolding, form a large number of transverse edges of adhesion, the length of which, due to their location at a significant angle, was significantly increased. Thanks to this, the tire demonstrates excellent braking efficiency, especially on wet asphalt.
