History

The brand was founded in 1989 by Dan Panoz, the son of Donald Panoz, an American entrepreneur who created two pharmaceutical companies. However, the company gained wide recognition in 1997, when it began participating in racing series around the world. The first victories of its cars were achieved in 2006 in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and 12 Hours of Sebring series. This did not go unnoticed by major automobile manufacturers, primarily BMW. But the most notable thing about the car was not its design, but its construction. Its chassis has a modular structure and low weight, thanks to the use of extruded aluminum. All five modules were attached to each other not by welding, but by bolts. The authors of the non-trivial solution were numerous aviation engineers from companies located near Atlanta, where the Panoz office is located. The choice of power unit was no less original. In essence, it is a racing 8-cylinder engine with a mechanical supercharger and a power of 305 horsepower in the initial versions and 420 horsepower in later ones. The combination of these technical solutions allowed the car to reach the first "hundred" in 4.2 seconds and achieve transverse acceleration in turns of 0.98g.
