Aiways Automobiles Company Ltd — a Chinese automobile manufacturing company founded in 2017 in Shanghai. The name represents a combination of two words. The Chinese Ai means "love", and the English Ways — "roads", "already on the way". The company was founded by Fu Qiang, who previously held the position of sales director of Volvo Cars in China, and Gary Gu.

In August 2019, Aiways acquired 50% of the shares of the Chinese automaker Jiangling Holdings, and another 25% went to the more well-known in our country Changan Automobile. The result of the deal was a license to produce electric vehicles and the opportunity to use the Jiangling plant for their assembly. One of the first models was the Aiways U5, released in November 2018. Unfortunately, by that time, a difficult situation had developed on the domestic market, as a result of which the company had to sell its stake in Jiangling Holdings to an investment holding company owned by the Nanchang municipality in January 2021.

In November 2022, Aiways found a new investor in the face of Phoenix EV, but nevertheless, the company had to leave the domestic market of China due to high competition, focusing exclusively on external markets. First of all, on the European one, where the company was represented since mid-2020. At the same time, production facilities are still located in China. The released cars are sent to their buyers not by sea, but through rail transport. This made it possible to significantly reduce the waiting time — from 6 weeks to 16 days.

Currently, the company is a fairly branched structure. The headquarters is still located in Shanghai, but all developments of new models are carried out at the research center in Munich, Germany. The production facilities are an auto assembly plant in the Chinese city of Shangrao. The plant is designed according to the Industry 4.0 standard. This is a so-called "dark factory", where, for the most part, there is no lighting due to the fact that almost all production processes are performed without human intervention. Control over them is carried out through a "cloud" monitoring system from Siemens. Robots from the Swiss-Swedish ABB and the German Kuka, Eisenmann painting chambers, and Durr assembly conveyors are also used at the enterprise.

Since the company is engaged in the production of electric vehicles, a significant part of its attention is focused on battery packs. This direction of activity has been developing since 2018, for which another plant was built in the Chinese city of Changshu. Patented batteries with a sandwich structure that separates dry and wet zones inside the battery, which includes 24 high-energy density modules, are produced there. Currently, these batteries are installed on both company models — U5 and U6. These are crossovers with a fully electric powertrain, using a single modular platform — MAC, which allows the use of a wide range of components.
