Yokohama TWS Invests in US Production

Yokohama TWS announced that it will continue to invest in its US factory, Mitas, which produces tires for agricultural equipment and is located in Charles City, Iowa, USA.

"While companies are considering bringing production back to the US, Yokohama TWS and the Mitas brand continue to invest in the local plant to strengthen ties with the American agricultural sector," the company said, adding that "this approach allows for faster response to market needs, increases supply chain efficiency, and enables the provision of reliable and high-quality solutions that meet the requirements of American farmers and agricultural equipment manufacturers."

Y-TWS adds that having its own factory in the US also reduces the impact of new import tariffs imposed by the authorities, reduces transportation costs, and creates a number of other benefits for the company.

The Iowa plant was opened in 2012, and it uses "efficient technologies and environmentally friendly production processes" that allow it to supply products "designed to meet the strict requirements of American agriculture."

"More than ten years ago, when other manufacturers were increasingly seeking to move production outside the country, Mitas recognized the strategic importance of creating a powerful production base in the US," said Tom Rogers, commercial director of the agricultural tire division of Y-TWS in North America. "Our plant in Charles City has allowed us to better serve the needs of American farmers, offering high-quality products and reducing delivery times, and in the current conditions, we can minimize the impact of new import tariffs."

Yokohama acquired Mitas in 2023, along with the tire business of Trelleborg. In January 2025, it was announced that the Mitas plant in Prague (Czech Republic) would be closed, and production would also be halted at the Y-TWS plant in Spartanburg (South Carolina, USA).
