Yokohama has added a new summer model to the flagship ADVAN line

Yokohama releases new summer tires Yokohama ADVAN V61 to the secondary market, which are part of the flagship ADVAN line from the Japanese manufacturer and are specifically designed for large premium crossovers and SUVs.

The tires feature an asymmetric tread pattern with four main and one additional narrower groove, designed to improve handling on wet roads. The grooves have a lightning-shaped design, which creates traction edges that cut through the water film, thereby increasing the volume of the grooves without reducing the stiffness of the tread ribs, thus improving handling on both wet and dry asphalt. Additionally, the closed shoulder design is intended to prevent tilting during sharp turns and increase tire life.

In the outer zone, the contact patch has been increased, which improves stability when cornering, while the increased groove volume in the inner section accelerates water dissipation, increasing safety in rainy weather. Furthermore, the use of a genetic algorithm has allowed optimizing the tread pitch and reducing noise, and the sidewall markings have become darker, making the tires more visually appealing.

The design features a high rim flange, and the two-layer structure of the sidewalls has increased stiffness without increasing the overall weight of the tires, as emphasized by the manufacturer. The tread ribs have a convex shape, which improves the even distribution of pressure in the contact area with the road and reduces the level of uneven wear. The under-tread layer is made from a rubber compound that reduces heat generation and increases fuel efficiency, while the sidewall sections, which are constantly deformed during movement, are also made from a compound that reduces heat generation, and the width of the breaker belt has been increased compared to the previous generation tires, which has improved handling characteristics.

In the production of rubber compounds, the A.R.T. Mixing technology is used, which improves the even distribution of silica particles in the compound, thereby increasing fuel efficiency, wet grip, and tire durability. The sidewalls feature the "E+" marking, meaning the tires have been adapted for use on electric vehicles.

Previously, the Yokohama ADVAN V61 tires were approved by Japanese automakers for equipping SUV-class vehicles such as the Lexus RX and Mazda CX-80, including electric ones (Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra). The new tires will be available starting from February 2025 worldwide, except for the North American market, in 17 sizes from 225/60 R17 to 255/45 R22, and the lineup is planned to be expanded in the future.
