The Government of Galicia (Spain) is taking measures to support a number of industrial projects in the region, including the currently frozen plans for the construction of a tire plant by the Chinese company Sentury, according to ERJ.

The company announced plans to create its own production in Galicia, northwest Spain, back in early 2022, and at the time, it was reported that 540 million would be invested in the new plant, and its capacity would be 12 million passenger tires per year.

On July 26, 2034, the President of Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, stated that it is planned, in particular, to allocate 6 million euros to the University of La Coruña (UDC), which "will contribute to the development of new industries". "We have several strategic projects planned, such as the construction of hydrogen, tire, and fiber plants by the companies H2Pole, Sentury, and Ence, respectively," he noted.

In 2022, the Spanish energy company Endesa announced that it would invest 230 million euros in the construction of a 119-megawatt wind farm to meet the needs of the new tire plant, but it had to wait until August 2023 to receive government permission to close another plant in Galicia. After that, it was necessary to decommission the facility, but Sentury stated in April 2024 that due to delays, it would redirect funds to implement its project in Morocco, where the company is currently building a tire plant located in Tangier.

On April 19, the company noted that since preliminary permits have not yet been obtained in Spain and funds have not started being used, 240 million euros will be invested in the launch of the second phase of the plant in Morocco, which will increase its capacity by 6 million tires for passenger and light commercial vehicles.
