In the Smolensk region, a new tire recycling plant will be built

The Government of the Smolensk Region and PJSC "Tatneft" will work out plans for the construction of a tire recycling plant, said Governor Vasily Anokhin following a meeting with Azat Khabibrakhmanov, Deputy General Director of the oil company.

The new enterprise will produce products that can be used in the production of new tires, coatings for children's playgrounds, shoe soles, waterproofing materials, and more.

As Anokhin noted, the new project will help reduce the technological burden on the environment. "Without proper disposal, tires decompose for over 100 years and release toxic organic compounds into the soil and water, and when one ton of tires is burned, several hundred kilograms of soot and harmful gases are released into the air. In addition, the new enterprise will create additional jobs for the region," the governor said.

"Tatneft" is currently implementing an all-Russian project for the collection and recycling of old tires, and in October 2024, it was announced that 49 additional tire collection points would be opened, which will increase the total number to 120.

The company uses tire recycling technologies, from which rubber crumb is produced, which is sent to a pyrolysis unit, and isobutane is obtained from the pyrolysis condensate - a raw material for the production of isobutane rubber and, subsequently, new tires. In addition, the crumb is used for the construction of sports and children's playgrounds.

"The region's active participation in this initiative will bring a positive environmental and economic effect not only for our region but also for the entire country. I am sure that cooperation with "Tatneft" will be mutually beneficial and fruitful!" Anokhin concluded.
