In Russia, they are calling for the introduction of anti-dumping duties on passenger tires from China

Russian tire manufacturers are calling on the Russian government to conduct an investigation and impose anti-dumping duties on tires from abroad, primarily from China, as well as from other Asian countries, reports RUPEC.

The topic of new anti-dumping duties was raised by Timur Sharipov, Executive Director of the Trading House "Kama", during a roundtable discussion "Tire and Rubber Industry in the Light of New National Projects" at the "Tires, Rubber and Rubber Products-2025" exhibition, making it clear that "some other market participants share a similar position".

According to him, last year the import of Chinese passenger tires to Russia grew by 40%, which was due to the fact that a number of foreign manufacturers left the local market. At the same time, as Sharipov pointed out, domestic companies "cannot participate in a price war with competitors from the PRC due to sanctions pressure and rising production costs over the past three years".

The roundtable discussion was moderated by Mikhail Yurin, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, who noted that manufacturers and industry associations need to form a consolidated position to discuss it at the government level. Perhaps the industry's opinion will be considered at a meeting of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, which is scheduled to take place in April-May of this year.

In August 2024, the head of the tire division of "Tatneft" Andrey Panteukhov noted that if in 2019 the share of Chinese companies in the domestic market was 11%, then in 2023 it grew to 37%, and "this is a serious threat to the industry, because, in our opinion, the increase in market share is often achieved through unfair price competition".

In March 2025, the General Director of "Cordiant" Vadim Volodin stated that according to last year's results, Chinese brands occupied almost a third of the market, and out of 56.4 million tires sold, more than 17.5 million units were imported from China. According to him, "after the departure of Western manufacturers, Chinese brands quickly occupied the vacant niche and adapted their offerings to the changed structure of the Russian car fleet".

Currently, anti-dumping duties are in effect in Russia on the import of truck tires and wheels from China.
