In the Omsk region, a quarry tire plant will be built
A plant for the production of tires for heavy quarry equipment will be built in the "Avangard" special economic zone in the Omsk region, which is scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of 2028, according to the press service of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.
The issue of developing the SEZ was discussed at a meeting attended by Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Svyatoslav Sorokin during his working trip to the Omsk region.
It is planned to invest 41.5 billion rubles in the creation of the plant, and the tires, adapted for use under extreme loads at large industrial facilities, will be intended, among other things, for enterprises in Siberia and the Far East. It is also noted that "a significant part of the volumes is already secured by confirmed orders, which provides a stable load on production".
"The development of the territory of the SEZ "Avangard" opens up opportunities for the placement of new high-tech productions. The company's project is a large-scale investment initiative with an import-substituting effect and a significant contribution to the regional budget. Such projects form a new industrial profile of the Omsk region," Sorokin said.
As said in 2023, the director of LLC "ERT-Group" (offers large-size tires under the Minering brand, the production of which is carried out in China) Vasily Rakitin, after the departure of large foreign players in this segment, "unfortunately, there are almost no alternatives to China".
"There are small supplies from Turkey, something comes from India, but there, as a rule, the sizes are "small". Belarusian brothers also help, but there are also many sizes missing, and there are discrepancies in quality regarding radial execution tires in the special tire segment. Now, almost 90% of the market is oriented towards China, but there is also a change in players. Who was a leader yesterday, today, God willing, is in the middle. New players, ambitious companies are emerging. But not everyone knows how to make tires for mining conditions, and this is one of the most difficult areas," Rakitin noted.
Regarding the organization of production within the country, the head of "ERT-Group" said that "a number of structures, including those from the Rosatom group, offer our company to deal with this issue. But we understand that without attracting Chinese manufacturers, the process will be very long and costly, and most likely, it will end in nothing".
Rakitin also noted that "we have a huge market for consumption, and not having our own production, I think, is a kind of crime in some sense".
