At NSU they will develop an environmentally friendly additive for the tire industry

Lobachevsky State University in Nizhny Novgorod has won a competition for innovative projects in the field of low-tonnage chemistry for the tire industry and will receive a grant of 20 million rubles - 10 million rubles from the Nizhny Novgorod Scientific and Educational Center and Orgkhim Biochemical Holding, reports the university's press service.

The winning project is the development of a non-carcinogenic compound for tire production, and scientists, as reported, will create an environmentally friendly additive that will be part of the tires, "giving the final product certain properties necessary for the manufacturer".

"We see how scientific initiatives become a real support for industry. This competition is another confirmation of our desire to support advanced developments and strengthen the scientific and industrial potential of the region," said Nikolai Khodov, General Director of Orgkhim.

Applications within the framework of the competition were evaluated according to such parameters as innovative component, qualification and work experience of the team, project competitiveness, etc.

"Chemistry is one of the three strategic areas of development of Lobachevsky University," said Oleg Trofimov, Rector of NSU. "The key tasks on this path are to secure the support of partners and ensure applied research with output to production. The Russian economy is in dire need of new materials for the chemical industry and the production of electronic components. Our joint project with Orgkhim is a contribution to strengthening Russia's technological sovereignty".

Orgkhim Biochemical Holding, based in Nizhny Novgorod, is engaged in the development and production of non-carcinogenic "green" aromatic oils-plasticizers for the tire industry, safe for humans and the environment.
