In 2026, Russia introduced a new eco-fee for tire suppliers with increased carcinogen content, and  Ikon Tyres noted that they are committed to reducing their harmful impact on the environment, including by abandoning the use of high-aromatic oils with harmful substances in the production process.

"Our production was initially created with strict European environmental standards in mind," said Vladimir Barvinok, Development Director of Ikon Tyres, quoted by "AvtoAvto". "We have abandoned cheap hazardous oils, replacing them with plant-based oils, including pine, rapeseed, and castor oil. This allows us to reduce the negative impact on the environment."

When the plant in Vsevolozhsk was part of Nokian Tyres, the eco-friendliness of the tires was visually emphasized, and a special marking in the form of a birch leaf was placed on the sidewalls of individual models. After the change of ownership and rebranding, the symbol was no longer used, but Ikon emphasizes that "the main thing has been preserved - the recipes for rubber compounds of all previously released models and the rejection of carcinogenic high-aromatic oils".

Ikon is also working on expanding the use of eco-materials, and, for example, in the production of studded winter tires Ikon Autograph Ice 10 - a novelty of the 2025 season - the share of renewable raw materials, such as natural rubber and oils, was increased by 5.5%, and in the case of friction Ikon Autograph Snow 5 - by 21%.

In anticipation of the introduction of the new eco-fee, Roskachestvo conducted tests of Russian and Chinese-made tires for the percentage content of "hydrogen bay area" (% HBay), and the summer tire Ikon Autograph Aqua 3 SUV confirmed compliance with GOST, i.e. the content of carcinogens in the rubber compound does not exceed the established norm.

"The Ikon tire brand maintains 20-year traditions of caring for the environment, giving preference to safe raw materials and developing new eco-friendly rubber compound compositions," the company says.
