In Germany and Sweden, the requirements for tires in the winter period have been changed

Starting from 2024, in Germany and Sweden during the winter period, only tires with the 3PMSF symbol (a mountain with three peaks and a snowflake) can be used, whereas previously, tires with the M+S marking could also be operated.

In Germany, the new rules came into effect on October 1, and in Sweden, tires with the "Alpine symbol" (winter or all-season) will be mandatory from December 1 to March 30.

To receive the 3PMSF symbol, tires must pass certification tests on snow, whereas the M+S marking can be provided by the manufacturer without mandatory third-party tests, as a result of which it can sometimes be seen on tires that are clearly not suitable for winter conditions.

According to the Euro marking system, the Ice Grip symbol is also used, which confirms the effectiveness of tires on ice (and helps to quickly distinguish between Scandinavian and European-type tires), but it is not yet mandatory.
