In General Tire prepared new tires for British utilities

National Grid Electricity Distribution, the UK's largest energy network serving 20 million customers across the Midlands, southwest and south Wales, will be using new all-terrain tyres specifically designed by General Tire in partnership with Micheldever Fleet Solutions (MFS).

It is noted that NGED required tyres for vans operating in challenging rural conditions, and General Tire responded to this need by developing a new version of the General Grabber AT3 tyres, suitable for fitment on commercial vehicles and providing both the necessary off-road capability and load-carrying capacity.

"We have one of the largest fleets in the UK, with vehicles operating in a wide range of conditions," said Nigel Wright, NGED's fleet manager. "Sometimes our technicians had difficulty navigating off-road, so we are delighted to have worked with General Tire and Micheldever Tyre Services to address this issue. They have provided us with a solution that will be good news for our customers, as it will improve our mobility and efficiency."

The new tyres have increased load indices, as the vans need to carry heavy cables, components, and tools required for fieldwork. Peter Gittens, head of MFS, noted that the collaboration "has successfully addressed the issue, which will benefit not only NGED but also other fleets, both in the utility sector and beyond."

Dave Dinin, MTS sales director, added that "listening to customer feedback is crucial, and this new project is a great example of how a supplier and manufacturer can work together to create products that meet the needs of businesses."

It is also reported that the development of tyres for NGED has led to the creation of additional Grabber AT3 sizes for a wider market, not just utility fleets.
