Valtra tractor equipped with Nokian Tyres sets a new speed record
The tire products of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta TRI model have brought tractors the opportunity to set a new speed record. This result was achieved thanks to the joint work of two companies - Nokian Tyres and Valtra.
The two companies combined all their experience and accumulated knowledge to create unique tires that would allow heavy equipment, such as tractors, to move quickly on snowy and icy roads. Such traction qualities are very relevant in Finnish Lapland, where weather conditions greatly limit the speed of transport.
The establishment of the record was attended by the winner of many rally championships - the famous driver Juha Kankkunen. Using two variations of the above-mentioned tire model on the Valtra T234 tractor, marked as 440/80R28 151D and 540/80R38 167D, the driver was able to immediately set a world record.
In his own words, he competed in many cars, but tested a tractor for the first time. "The tires performed perfectly, despite the difficult weather conditions," Kankkunen admitted. "With them, the tractor moved confidently, which gave me the opportunity to set a record."
The recorded speed of the 7.7-ton tractor exceeded 130 km/h. Recall that the tire products of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta TRI model appeared on sale last spring. Its feature is a special tread pattern, a specially developed winter tire compound, and a thoughtful arrangement of lamellas, which together provide high stability and traction on icy and snowy roads.
