Toyo introduced new winter tires for compact electric trucks
Toyo Tire has revealed details about its new winter tire, the Toyo Nanoenergy M951 EV, which was specifically designed for electric light trucks and joins the company's lineup alongside the recently introduced summer model, Nanoenergy M151 EV, also created for this segment.
In Toyo, they note that in Japan, electric vehicles are increasingly being used for delivering small shipments over short distances. Since these vehicles operate in a mode with frequent stops and starts and have increased torque, this can lead to premature tire wear. For this reason, the asymmetric tread pattern of the new tire has been optimized to increase tire life, while a special rubber compound, made using Nano Balance technology (which controls material properties at the nano level), has helped increase wear resistance by 38% compared to the Toyo M919.

The tread pattern features large blocks with densely arranged lugs, which increase traction on snow and ice, and the compound has also allowed for a 15% reduction in rolling resistance, which will improve the range of electric vehicles.
The Toyo Nanoenergy M951 EV will be released on the Japanese market in September 2024 in one size: 215/70 R17.5 (the same size as the M151 EV).
