Toyo recalls nearly 37,000 off-road tires

Toyo Tire is recalling 36,919 SUV tires of 12 models under the Nitto and Toyo brands, which were manufactured on January 23 and 24 at the Georgia, USA plant. The reason for the recall is the contamination of the breaker band, which reduced its adhesion to other components of the tire and created a risk of partial or complete separation of the tread/breaker, i.e., there is a risk of losing control of the vehicle and an accident.

The recall affects tires of the Toyo Open Country A/T III, Open Country R/T Trail, Open Country M/T, and Open Country H/T II models, as well as the Nitto Crosstek 2, Dura Grappler, Exo Grappler AWT, Mud Grappler, Recon Grappler A/T, Ridge Grappler, Terra Grappler G3, and Trailer Grappler, in sizes with a rim diameter from 17 to 20 inches.

Information about the potential defect became known after the company received a Toyo Open Country A/T III tire in size LT285/70 R17 on September 9, which had a separated breaker package. On September 18, two more tires produced during the same period were sent, and the company began an investigation, as a result of which it was decided to recall the batch of products from the market. All tires will be replaced free of charge.
