Rospotrebnadzor: The illegal turnover of tires has been halved
Since the introduction of mandatory digital labeling of tires in 2020, Rospotrebnadzor employees have been regularly inspecting trade facilities that sell tire products. As reported by the agency, over 57,000 tires have been inspected over the past five years, with more than 10,000 having digital labeling violations. As a result of the inspections, 829 administrative protocols were drawn up, and 147 administrative cases were sent to court for consideration.
It is also reported that the measures taken have halved the illegal turnover of tires, and "labeling is becoming in demand among consumers as well: using the mobile application 'Honest Sign', Russians have already independently checked 1.4 million tires".
Currently, there are over 43,000 participants in the tire turnover system registered, which are subject to Rospotrebnadzor control, and the sale of tires without identification means is prohibited.
"A special digital code (similar to a QR code) must be applied to goods subject to labeling. Also, only stores registered in the labeling information system can trade in tires," note the RPN. "Control over compliance with these requirements allows us to prevent the sale of tires of illegal origin, which have not passed the conformity assessment, are counterfeit or potentially hazardous to human health, in trade facilities".
Mandatory labeling of lubricants and special automotive fluids is also being introduced. This category includes engine oils, gear and reducer oils, lubricants for machines, mechanisms, and vehicles, brake hydraulic fluids, antifreezes, and de-icing fluids. From September 1, 2025, these products must be labeled during production or when imported into Russia, and from December 1 of this year, the sale of unlabeled leftovers will be prohibited.
"Labeling allows us to effectively counteract the circulation of illegal, unsafe, and counterfeit products, protecting the interests of honest business and consumers," emphasize the Rospotrebnadzor.
