Details have emerged about the new Michelin CrossClimate 3 all-season tires

Michelin continues to develop its successful all-season CrossClimate line and releases the third-generation model, with the standard tire — CrossClimate 3 — being supplemented with a sports version called CrossClimate 3 Sport for the first time. The company says the latter is the first all-season tire for sports cars that is suitable for winter conditions (in regions with a mild climate).

Michelin CrossClimate 3 is designed to reliably work throughout the year in regions with mild winters, and the manufacturer emphasizes that the tires adapt to weather conditions and guarantee a high level of grip from the first kilometer to the minimum permitted tread depth.

Compared to the second-generation tires — Michelin CrossClimate 2 — the engineers increased the grip on wet roads by 4% (receiving a rating of "B" in the European classification system), while the resource increased by 15%. In addition, the tires have been improved to handle the increased loads when used on electric cars with their increased mass and torque, and the 3PMSF marking confirms their effectiveness on snow. The tires will be available starting from July 2025 in 64 sizes for wheels with a diameter of 16 to 20 inches.

In turn, Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport, also having a snowflake symbol on the sidewalls, is designed for those who want to enjoy the dynamic capabilities of their sports car at any time of the year (the tires are not suitable for the northern winter).

The manufacturer claims that the tires provide optimal handling on both dry and wet asphalt, as well as in winter conditions. According to the Euro marking system, all sizes received an "A" rating for grip in rainy weather, and the tires were also adapted for use on electric vehicles.

"The new tires are really impressive," said Mathieu Vaxivière, a professional racing driver. "When I first tested them on the Auvergne roads, the feeling was as if they were 'normal' sports tires. They combine comfort, handling sensitivity, and sportiness."

Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport is made using the Dynamic-Response technology from motorsports, and the hybrid breaker made using aramid fibers and nylon improves controllability, while the tread grooves expand closer to the shoulder areas (V-Shape technology), which accelerates water drainage, including when the tires are worn. The lineup will include 30 sizes with a diameter of 18–21 inches (the largest size is 295/35 R21), and sales are scheduled to start on July 1.

All next-generation tires are produced in Europe at plants in Bad Kreuznach (Germany), Valladolid and Vitoria (Spain), Nyíregyháza (Hungary), Cuneo (Italy), Olsztyn (Poland), and Pirot (Serbia), while sizes with the most complex design are produced in Roanne (France).

Michelin CrossClimate of the first generation was released in 2015, and the second — in 2021, and the company emphasizes that it continues to develop its technologies in the all-season segment and offer products that "combine the characteristics of summer tires with good winter suitability".

"The all-season segment has been steadily growing in Europe for many years, and customers require increasingly flexible and efficient solutions for different driving styles," noted Agostino Mazzocchi, Vice President of B2C Sales at Michelin in the North European region. "We also see dynamic development in the light truck segment, where all-season tire sales are also showing double-digit growth."

Currently, the CrossClimate family includes tires for all classes of vehicles from compact to family and sports cars, which are suitable for use on vehicles with all types of powertrains: traditional, hybrid, and electric.
