Error in labeling led to the recall of 83 thousand Achilles tires
PT Multistrada Arah Sarana Tbk. (MASA) is recalling 82,964 Achilles ATR Sport 2 passenger car tires from the US market, manufactured at the Cikarang plant (Indonesia) from week 1 of 2016 to week 10 of 2020, due to an overly long Tire Identification Number (TIN). The recall affects tires of five sizes with diameters ranging from 17 to 21 inches.
According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the TIN on the recalled tires includes an additional six-character code, exceeding the four-character limit. As a result, users will be unable to register their tires and receive recall notifications, potentially prolonging the use of defective tires and creating a safety hazard.
The Achilles ATR Sport 2 tires belong to the UHP category and are designed, among other things, for drifting competitions.
Since 2019, Michelin has owned a controlling stake in MASA.
