Nokian has released a new all-season UHP tire
Nokian Tyres has introduced the new all-season Nokian Surpass AS01 tire to the North American market, which, according to the manufacturer, combines improved driving qualities with increased durability and good economy, as well as being optimally suited for use on electric vehicles.
The Silica Sense rubber compound contains more silica than any other all-season Nokian tire previously released, which improves handling on wet and dry surfaces, reduces rolling resistance, and increases tire life. The Surpass AS01 also features Aramid Sidewalls technology, where lightweight aramid fibers reinforce the sidewalls to provide puncture resistance.
The tread pattern features wide longitudinal grooves that accelerate water evacuation, increasing safety in rainy weather, while closed shoulder areas reinforced with inter-block bridges increase tire strength. The guaranteed mileage is 55,000 miles (90,000 km).
"Many UHP-class tires provide good traction and handling, but in creating the Surpass AS01, we also prioritized durability, toughness, and longevity to give drivers maximum driving pleasure," emphasized Steve Bourassa, Director of Products at Nokian Tyres North America.
The tread pattern also includes a solid central rib that improves steering sensitivity, while shoulder "claws" and 3D sipes create additional traction in challenging weather conditions. Although the tire is considered all-season, it does not have the 3PMSF marking, meaning it has not passed certification tests on snow (if it had the snowflake symbol, it would be called "all-weather" in the local market), and its operating temperature range is from 7 to 45 degrees.
The ecological factor has not been forgotten, and in addition to low rolling resistance, which reduces harmful emissions, the tires are also made with an increased proportion of "green" materials (recycled or from renewable sources). Furthermore, the Electric Fit marking indicates that the tires have been adapted for use on electric vehicles. Like other Nokian tires of the latest generation, the new tire features a wear indicator that allows you to see the approximate remaining tread depth as a percentage.
The tires were released on the North American market in January 2025 in 65 sizes, ranging from 205/55 R16 to 275/40 R21, including a large number of sizes for popular electric vehicle models in the region. Speed indices range from V (240 km/h) to Y (300 km/h).
