Nexen Tire, in cooperation with the Korean Institute of Design Promotion (KIDP), has introduced a new concept for public transportation designed by one of the participants in the program launched by the tire manufacturer, a student from one of Korea's leading universities.

The new project is a transportation system that travels between city centers and outskirts, consisting of separate modules equipped with large wheels that serve as doors for passengers to enter and exit. By attaching the wheels, modules can be "docked" for passenger transfers or joint movement, and since the wheels are arranged in a circle, the transportation system can turn 360 degrees on the spot.

Nexen has been developing similar projects (usually concept tires, not entire transportation systems) in collaboration with automakers, technology developers for transport automation, and major domestic universities for over 20 years. The company says that such work plays an important role in responding to rapid changes in the automotive industry.

"In the mobility sector, trends such as the proliferation of electric cars, autonomous vehicles, and eco-friendly cars create new challenges for manufacturers, and Nexen Tire is creating innovative solutions through conceptual tires," notes Nexen, adding that concept tires reflect the company's long-term vision and help both strengthen competitiveness in the market today and ensure sustainable development in the future.

"Concept tires that combine advanced technology and creative design are an important means of informing the public about the company's research and development, and with their help, Nexen Tire hopes to continue effectively developing its technologies and increasing consumer trust in the brand," the company says.

This time, 10 students from Korean universities participated in the project, and the winning concept will be showcased at Nexen's UniverCITY research center in Seoul and on social media.

"Innovative ideas from young talents are an important source of inspiration for the future development of Nexen Tire's technologies, and such projects play a crucial role in developing solutions that will lead the market after the emergence of next-generation vehicles," the company emphasizes.
