The "Ikon Tyres Speed Days on Baikal Ice" festival is underway
From February 27 to March 2, the "Ikon Tyres Speed Days on Baikal Ice" festival is being held in the Irkutsk region, with the tire manufacturer, whose brand is added to the name, as a partner. In 2025, the event is being held for the 13th time, and since 2012, more than 30 national speed records have been set on the ice of Baikal, recorded by the Russian Automobile Federation (RAF).
In 2024, as part of the festival, a car on studded tires Ikon Autograph Ice 9 was able to develop a speed of 298 km/h, and, as noted by Alexander Parkhomchuk, the head of the customer technical support and testing group at Ikon, "in such tests, such as speed records on ice, complete confidence in the tires, their stability under load, and most importantly, the predictability of their behavior at low temperatures and road surface are important. The choice of tires with double studs is absolutely logical and is a guarantee of reliability".
He also added that last year "the tires performed excellent at high speeds, helping pilots achieve record-breaking results", and in 2025 the company "is again focused on results that will become new milestones in the history of motorsport".
According to Andrey Leontyev, the organizer of the "Speed Days", "the festival is an important international event for motorsport enthusiasts and new achievements. <...> The famous Baikal ice will become a real arena for participants and their cars equipped with Ikon Tyres, thanks to which the races become even more spectacular and effective".
The organizers add that the competitions are held at extreme speeds on the surface of the lake with its inherent roughness, and the level of grip depends on both the likelihood of setting a record and the safety of the pilot, and the Ikon Autograph Ice 9 tires "fully reveal the potential of the participants' cars and meet all the requirements for driving in such winter conditions".
Currently, there are only three venues in the world for setting speed records for vehicles of various categories: "Speed Week" in Bonneville (Utah, USA), World Speed Trials (Australia), and "Ikon Tyres Speed Days on Baikal Ice", and only in Russia are races held on ice.
