Bridgestone tires have set a new record for the longest distance traveled by an electric vehicle
With the support of Webfleet, a subsidiary of Bridgestone offering various fleet management solutions, a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled in an electric vehicle without recharging was set at 916.74 km. The previous record was 907.623 km.
The new record was set by Kevin Booker and Sam Clarke, with the participation of Richard Parker, in a Ford Mustang Mach-E crossover equipped with Bridgestone tires. All data on the run was recorded using video and GPS, taking into account the odometer readings and battery charge level data. It is noted that the Mach-E's economy exceeded expectations, and the average energy consumption on public roads in Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, and Cambridgeshire was 10.06 km per kWh. The trip lasted over 24 hours, and the route included both urban streets and rural roads to fully simulate real-world conditions, with the tires improving energy efficiency due to reduced rolling resistance.
According to Beverley Wise, Webfleet's Regional Director for the UK and Ireland, the new record is very important as it confirms the high potential of electric vehicles, and Booker stated that "the run was an exciting adventure and a clear demonstration of what electric cars can do".
"It's incredible how far we've come in terms of technology and efficiency of electric vehicles," he added. "We hope that our achievement will inspire more drivers to consider using an electric car in their daily lives".
The official judging for the record was provided by the British Automobile Association (AA), whose president, Edmund King, CBE, noted that "the drivers of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, supported by Bridgestone and Webfleet, using their expertise, have proven that electric vehicles can travel much farther without recharging than many think". "Such endeavors are of great importance, as they confirm that electric cars can become an important part of our future fleet", he added.
