Kaluga Tire Plant reduces harmful emissions

The Gislaved tire plant in Kaluga, which is part of the Cordiant cluster, reported on the results of the implementation of its environmental strategy for 2021-2024, and according to the company's statement, carbon dioxide emissions were reduced by 12.6 thousand tons.

"Energy efficiency is one of the key elements of our activity," noted Pavel Borodatov, director of the plant. "Thanks to the modernization of systems, water reuse and continuous internal energy audits, we reduced electricity costs by 13% and heat by 12%. This is not only a saving, but also a contribution to the preservation of the ecosystem."

The reduction in CO2 emissions over the past four years was achieved through the optimization of electricity consumption (-4.57 thousand tons) and thermal energy (-8.03 thousand tons). The company also notes that water consumption per ton of product decreased by 34%, which became possible due to closed-loop systems that allowed the reuse of 1386 m2 of water. Calculated per ton of finished product, the consumption of electrical and thermal energy was reduced by 23% and 31%, respectively.

"90% of the plant's production waste is sent for recycling or disposal, including separate collection of plastic, glass, paper and hazardous materials," the company reports, adding that the environmental impact was reduced, among other things, with the help of four gas cleaning installations with an efficiency of up to 99%.

"The achievements of the Gislaved plant in the field of ecology are confirmed by the international certificate ISO 50001 and correspond to the sustainable development goals of the Cordiant holding," the company emphasizes.
