Goodyear offered to sell the closing tire plant for 1 euro

The company Goodyear intends to close its tire plant in Fürstenwalde (Brandenburg, Germany) by the end of 2027, resulting in the loss of around 750 jobs. Recently, the city's mayor, Matthias Rudolph, offered the company to sell the complex to the authorities for a symbolic price, as reported by Stern.

"I suggest that Goodyear transfer this site to the city for 1 euro as a symbolic compensation," he said. "It is necessary to make it usable again as soon as possible."

In Goodyear, it was noted that "options for the future of the Fürstenwalde plant will be discussed later," and added that they intend to cooperate with the city authorities, and "currently, the most important thing is to fulfill the conditions agreed upon with our social partners."

Earlier, the plant's employees, who will be affected by the closure due to increased competition from Asian imports, held several rallies in front of the enterprise, demanding that it be sold to another investor while preserving jobs. At the same time, the local union says that "although it would be better to preserve the plant, there are no signs that this can happen yet."

The Brandenburg government has also advocated for preserving the plant, with Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke stating that he "will fight for jobs."

In Fürstenwalde, the company plans to continue producing rubber compounds for tire production, and it was previously announced that the tire plant in Fulda would also be closed.
