General Motors announced a recall of 22,914 electric crossovers Cadillac Optiq and Chevrolet Equinox EV of the 2025 and 2026 model years due to the fact that their equipment included defective all-season Continental tires with a diameter of 21 inches, produced during the 40th week of 2025, which may experience tread separation, increasing the risk of an accident. According to the automaker's estimates, 1.6% of the tires to be replaced have a defect.

Continental itself had previously started a recall of almost seven thousand tires of four models, including the Continental CrossContact RX ContiSeal (with a self-sealing puncture feature) in size 275/40 R21, which were supplied to GM.

The reason for the recall was that during the production of the tire's undertread layer, a rubber compound with an incorrect sulfur content was used, which worsens the adhesion to other tire components.
