Belshina has mastered high-strength metal cord

From September 1, 2024, Belshina has started using a new "ultra-high-strength" metal cord in the production of all its passenger tires, which has improved a number of operational qualities of the products, the company reports.

According to the manufacturer, the use of the new cord makes it possible to reduce the weight of tires by more than 3% while maintaining their strength and other parameters, as well as increase the durability of tires and reduce dynamic loads on the elements of the vehicle's design. In addition, the reduction in fuel consumption is up to 2.5%, the company notes.

The "Oil Chemistry" portal adds that "tires with a metal cord of the 2x0.25 UT brand in the breaker have successfully passed bench tests in the certified laboratory of JSC "Belshina", which confirms the effectiveness of its use in the power layers of the breaker belt".

"At the moment, the tires have successfully completed the entire complex of production tests and have been sent for laboratory-road tests. But already today, we can talk about the correctness of the chosen development vector", - noted Viktor Gapanovich, Deputy Chief - Head of the tire design and construction department of the engineering and technical center "Belshina".

The company does not specify who became the supplier of the new metal cord, but similar products are produced, for example, by the Belarusian Metallurgical Plant, one of the partners of the tire manufacturer.
